Bleached - Can You Deal?

New music = sick new music videos. We’ve rounded up some of our favorites for your viewing pleasure. Vids from Bleached, The Coathangers, Colleen Green, IAN SWEETLe Butcherettes, No Parents, and Sonic Youth made the list. This should distract you from real life/work/school for a bit. Expect mutant aliens, slime, and a janky remake of Forrest Gump in your near future.

Bleached – “Can You Deal?”

LA rockers, Bleached just came out with an EP called Can you Deal?. Jennifer Calvin explains her frustrations with constantly being labeled a “girl band” and “female fronted”. The notion as being a human band is highlighted In the video, directed by Ryan Baxley, in a world of mutant aliens. – Crystal

“Can You Deal with women playing rock and roll yet?” – Jennifer Calvin, lead singer/guitarist of Bleached, a human band.

The Coathangers – “Parasite”

The Coathangers’ new video for “Parasite” comes off their latest EP of the same name. The video was shot live while rehearsing for their 2017 US/EU tour, which they are currently on. According to the band, “During the making of our last album, I didn’t want to scream anymore, I just wanted to sing and focus on melody. When we came to this recording, I just wanted to scream and curse.” That’s what I love about this band, their energy and music just make me want to move. – Crystal

Colleen Green – “Between The Lines”

Cool cat Colleen Green recently dropped a new vid for the Devo-sampling track “Between The Lines” from her 2016 self-titled, super limited cassette released EP.  Take a playful, sun-soaked, pup-filled trip through LA with Colleen as she balls it up with Uncle Funkle! – Mat

IAN SWEET – “Slime Time Live”

Remember Slime Time Live on Nickelodeon? I always wanted to get slimed! Lead singer, Jillian Medford describes how her mom IRL plays the mom in the video, and was so in character she actually ate the slime. Gnarly! This is another one directed by Mr. Ryan Baxley. IAN SWEET is currently on tour promoting their debut album Shapeshifter, out on Hardly Art. – Crystal

Le Butcherettes – “Shame is All I’ve Got” (Blind Blind Tiger Session)

Been digging into all the great videos Blind Blind Tiger have put out from their secret location in DTLA.  The recent sessions with Mind Meld, Frankie and The Witchfingers, and Death Valley Girls all rule, but it was this vid that I keep finding myself going back to.  Haven’t had a chance to catch Le Butcherettes live yet, but these BBT sessions make me want to venture out for the next show!  And although my first thought at the beginning of the video was, “oh god, there’s a uke – this can’t be good,” singer Teri Gender Bender will suck you in and make you forget about any hesitations. – Mat

No Parents – “Runaway”

Apparently the budget for this vid by No Parents was $100, with $80 going towards margaritas. Cheers to that! The music video is a spoof on the movie Forrest Gump, which includes janky versions of Jenny, Lt. Dan and Forrest Gump. These dudes make fun, rowdy, party music that doesn’t take itself too serious. Another one directed by the homie Ryan Baxley. Killing it with the vids! – Crystal

Sonic Youth – “Youth Against Fascism”

This, is the song I hate!  Sonic Youth are always a go to for me, and lately this video has been a fave.  With such apathy, they declare this to be the song they hate because, once again, they find themselves needing to make yet another protest song against the fascist pig in power.  The video was release in December 1992 and the track features Ian McKay (Minor Threat/Fugazi) on guitar.  Plus 90’s LA! – Mat
