I came across this album at the record store the other day and felt the need to buy it. Upon looking into the band and the recording – and giving the record a few spins – I was blown out of the cool-tite universe!!
Butter 08 was a very short-lived “supergroup” that featured the two gals of Cibo Matto as well as members of The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Enon / Skeleton Key (and also features Sean Lennon). For serious, how could you go wrong! As legend tells it, they all met in 1995 while Cibo Matto was in the studio recording the fantastic single “Know Your Chicken.” After recording, the band sent the demo to Mike D of The Beastie Boys who immediately signed the band to their Grand Royal Records, and released Butter 08’s self-titled record in 1996.
