Four angels came down to Echo Park on Tuesday night to rock our little hearts out. Hailing from Seattle, WA, La Luz is made up of Shana Cleveland (guitar), Marian Li Pino (drums), Alice Sandahl (keyboard) and Lena Simon (bass). Los Angeles was the 4th stop on a cross-country/world tour to promote their newest album, Weirdo Shrine.

Cool Ghouls

San Francisco based, Cool Ghouls were the second act on the bill. These boys jammed out on a smoky stage with chill vibes and groovy tunes. They said this was the biggest crowd they’ve played to in LA. I heard some people singing along behind me, so they must be doing it right. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more of these dudes.

La Luz

I fell in love with La Luz’s debut album, It’s Alive, released on Hardly Art Records in 2013. I first saw them last year, when they came through town to play a show at the Church On York (R.I.P.) in Highland Park. Their sound is a combination of 60’s girl groups and surfy garage pop. These ladies seriously rule.

Back at the Echoplex, surfy guitar riffs and angelic harmonies filled the room and everyone was riding the wave. In the middle of the set, they tried to get a soul train going through the middle of the LA crowd. That went on for a bit before keyboardist, Alice Sandahl jumped in to crowd surf. So very.

Cool-Tite loves you LA LUZ! We won’t tell anyone that LA is your favorite 😉 Have fun on the rest of the tour!
