Shopping at Resident

Photos by Sergio Estrada

There was no way I was going to miss Shopping at Resident. I discovered the UK dance-punkers only after they played the Echo the last time they were in LA, which was back in 2015. DTLA was a stop on their North American tour promoting the new album, The Official Body, produced by Edwyn Collins (also known as the singer of Orange Juice!). The bill also included Lithics (Portland) and French Vanilla (Los Angeles), which made for a perfectly post-punk lineup.

Shopping was so fun to dance too! Vocalist/guitarist Rachel Aggs played barefoot and encouraged the audience to get down. Which is exactly what we did. The queer positive band plays political, yet bouncy and upbeat jams. I feel the point is to fight the man by having fun and enjoying yourself, and being true to you. It was good vibes for a stressful, mid-week rut.

Sergio recently came up on a Yashica T4 Super he found at a thrift store. This is the first roll off that camera. Check out the photos he took below! And def check out The Official Body out on Fat Cat Records.
